Many thanks to Kate Wallace and Doug Clegg for hatching the sweetest idea of the year: an homage to the festival where many of us met, The Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas. In a stroke of genius our friends found this wonderful camp ground in Big Sur CA and then managed to co ordinate about 10 fantastic songwriters and about 20 fantastic music lovers from all over the country for a 5 day love fest. Picture all of us tucked in our tents on the banks of the Big Sur river for a few hours between midnight and 6am, and then picture us the rest of the time playing music, cooking and eating meals together, laughing, playing music, singing harmony, stealing each other's chops, talking, walking in the beautiful forest in absolutely perfect weather, did I mention playing music??? The camp ground had a 10pm noise curfew, which we were happy to respect, but on our first night the camp owner came down to listen to the music and promptly lifted the curfew for our camp. He pulled up a lawn chair every night, and when I ran into him in the general store he told me it had been the best musical experience of his LIFE! (he was serious too). I think most everyone who attended would agree with him.
