I Scare Myself

I have been writing songs y’all. I rashly promised to make a new one every month for the fabbo Celebrating Songwriters series and so far so good. I find it very strange that one of them, La Maison, just happened to be all about the importance of Home in the Cajun culture. I keep wondering why I wrote it right before hurricane Katrina wiped out so much of New Orleans. I scare myself. Anyway, I mentioned on the home page that it has been rather a strange month, I guess for lots of folks. My own personal strangeness included two, count ‘em TWO oral surgeries followed by a rocking cold accompanied by the singer’s friend, laryngitis. I had SO many cool gigs booked for September, it is such a drag that I was sick and or recovering from the dreaded dentist for all of them. Of course that did not stop me from bitching and moaning my way through everything in high style. The highlight (lowlight?) of the month was being chased for 50 miles down a deserted HWY 580 at 4am on the way home from a festival by some twisted freeway stalker guy. The real highlight was playing for/with my pals Kate Wallace and Doug Clegg at their Trinity Backstage series in Santa Barbara. New pal Jimmy McVey joined in and I had an instant band for part of the show. If that wasn’t enough, several of my family members came out for the show. It was a stellar evening and a good time was had by all.
